What is Competitive Cans™?

Competitive Cans™ is an innovative court-based target sport that combines precision, strategy, athleticism, and friendly competition into an exciting experience for players of all ages.

Inspired by the iconic shape of a crushed aluminum can, the sport challenges players to throw a regulation ball toward specially engineered compressed disc targets placed on a marked court. Every throw requires accuracy, tactical decision-making, and consistency, making the game easy to learn while offering a high skill ceiling for competitive play.

Major League Competitive Cans™ (MLCC) is the official brand and organized league dedicated to competitions, exhibitions, training, and entertainment surrounding the sport of Competitive Cans™.

The Vision Behind the Sport

Competitive Cans™ was created to become more than just another backyard activity. Its vision is to establish a modern sport that bridges recreational play and organized competition.

The sport is designed to be:

  • Easy for beginners to learn

  • Challenging enough for elite competitors

  • Affordable to play

  • Portable and accessible

  • Equally suited for backyards, parks, recreation centers, schools, and professional arenas

Just as sports like pickleball, cornhole, and roundnet evolved into organized competitions, Competitive Cans™ is being developed with standardized equipment, official rules, and structured league play from the very beginning.

How the Game Works

Players compete individually (Singles) or in teams (Doubles) on an official regulation court measuring 60 feet long by 8 feet wide.

Each side throws a regulation MLCC ball toward compressed disc targets positioned on the court. Players score points by successfully striking targets from designated scoring distances.

Official scoring zones include:

  • 10 points

  • 20 points

  • 30 points

  • 40 points

  • 50 points

The first side to reach 100 points wins—unless the opposing player or team qualifies for the exciting Last Shot opportunity.

Official Equipment

Major League Competitive Cans™ uses standardized equipment to ensure fair and consistent competition.

Regulation Ball

The official MLCC ball is approximately:

  • 9-inch diameter

  • 1.4 pounds

  • Synthetic rubber construction

  • Medium bounce

  • Designed for indoor and outdoor courts

A dedicated MLCC ball is currently under development to provide gameplay characteristics unique to the sport.

Regulation Compressed Disc Target

Unlike traditional target games, Competitive Cans™ uses engineered compressed disc targets inspired by crushed aluminum cans.

Each regulation target features:

  • Approximately 3.5-inch diameter

  • 0.75-inch thickness

  • Durable construction for repeated impacts

  • Double-sided graphics to accommodate gameplay modes in which the target may flip during play

One unique aspect of Competitive Cans™ is that target movement is intentionally part of the game.

Two Official Ways to Play

Competitive Cans™ currently recognizes two official gameplay formats.

Stationary Mode

Targets are reset to their original positions after every successful strike.

This format emphasizes precision, repeatability, and consistent shot execution.

All Around the World Mode

Targets remain wherever they come to rest after being struck.

Targets may:

  • Slide

  • Rotate

  • Flip over

  • Change strategic positioning

If a target leaves the designated reset boundary, it is returned to its original starting location before play resumes.

This mode introduces dynamic strategy and rewards players who can adapt to constantly changing target locations.

Winning the Game

Standard matches are played to 100 points.

A unique feature of Competitive Cans™ is the Last Shot rule.

If one side reaches 100 points while the opponent remains within a single scoring attempt (50 points or fewer behind), the trailing side receives one final opportunity to extend the match.

If successful:

  • Play continues

  • The target score increases by another 100 points

  • The process repeats until one side wins outright

This rule creates exciting finishes and ensures dramatic comebacks remain possible until the final throw.

Sportsmanship First

Competitive Cans™ emphasizes:

  • Respect

  • Integrity

  • Fair competition

  • Inclusion

  • Community

Unsportsmanlike conduct, interference with an opponent's shot, repeated violations, or unsafe behavior are subject to penalties under official CCA rules.
